| | | | | Description : | Spanish electro wizard Fibla is that rare producer who neither overdoes the syrupy ambience nor skimps on the all-important pops and glitches. LANDSCOPES is warm and engaging, devoid of the iciness that can plague computer-based music. 'Moviola,' 'Steck,' and the title track douse edgy electro in Iberian sunshine. A flow of downtempo bass softens the switchback breakbeats of 'Tildeath' and 'Grimm,' while an internalized melody keeps 'Forest Thoughts' lush, luminous, and green. The shrapnel-and-honey mix of mellow synths and crackling digitalia on 'Blick,' 'Rec Image,' and 'The Boys' recalls Chilean transplant Atom Heart. And if 'Cyn' sounds a little too much like 'Envane'-era Autechre, that's no unforgivable crime. LANDSCOPES is ample evidence that Fibla has a voice of his own.
