 | BJORKENHEIM, RAOUL (ECSTASY) Doors Of Perception Label : Cuneiform Records Year : 2017 Format : CD Style : Jazz / Rock Availability : In stock Price : 14.70 € - BUY | |
| Description : | 'I always felt there's something special about having a band. An all-star session can be good too, but the thing I'm missing nowadays in jazz is really good bands playing together tightly, turning on a dime together, and especially improvising together.' – Raoul Björkenheim
This is the third album by guitarist and composer Raoul Bjorkenheim and his band eCsTaSy, which contains some of the most exciting musicians in Finland today! Raoul has worked with such notables as Anthony Braxton, Gerald Cleaver, Hamid Drake, Trevor Dunn, Ingebrigt Håker Flaten, Ejigayehu 'Gigi' Shibabaw, Henry Kaiser, Mike Keneally, Bill Laswell, Michael Manring, William Parker, Edward Vesala, John Zorn and many others, but eCsTaSy has been his main unit and main concern for the last seven years… and on their most developed album to date, it shows! 'Despite the boilingly hot drive...influenced by Cream, Lifetime, the Jimi Hendrix Experience (and perhaps more notionally the Pete Cosey/Reggie Lucas version of the Miles Davis group), there's a lyrical side to the guitarist's playing as well...Excellent.' – Point Of Departure 'The way [the group] cross-pollinates between jazz and rock recalls fellow traveler Nels Cline, and the results are similar: Oblique swing, gnarly noise, predictably unpredictable, swell.' – Icon RAOUL BJÖRKENHEIM - guitar / PAULI LYYTINEN - saxes and wood flute / JORI HUHTALA - double bass / MARKKU OUNASKARI - drums - FOR FANS OF - Nels Cline / (late period) John Coltrane / Jimi Hendrix / Henry Kaiser / John McLaughlin / Hedvig Mollestad Trio / Terje Rypal | |
