DESCRIPTION |
| | WELTER QUARTET Ring ring Label : Amanita Records Year : 2004 Format : CD Style : Jazz / Lounge Availability : In stock
Price : 12.40 € - BUY
| | | | Description : | French band Welter Quartet mixes up jazz influences with hard-core energy. It was created in 1999 by still members of avant rock bands Shunatao and Kourgane. Drums, electric bass, electric guitar and violin support here a female voice that turns the band into an avant-garde cabaret. Here, one could either compare the french singing to a live Betty Boop or Brigitte Bardot wisperings, or to some romantic old style vocals, depending on the performed songs. Fuelled by a fast and hard, tribal drum and bass ensemble, the songs rely on both guitar and violin for the melodies and the ambiances. The violinist shows great improvisational skills that allow him to give the songs eastern and oriental flavors, always in a personal approach of the ethnic traditions. The guitar punctures the structures with torn apart riffs and scratching single notes to push the music in shaky experimental corners. A keyboard also bursts out with terrific low-fi and humorous soundings. As a result, the Welter Quartet creates a music of its own, rooted in free jazz and sharp rock, with sexy vocals that make the all stuff roll.
